The FT4232HA is FTDI's 5th generation of USB devices.

The FT4232HA is a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (480Mb/s) to multi-purpose UART/MPSSE IC that is automotive qualified for AEC temperature grade 2. It has the capability of being configured in a variety of industry standard serial or parallel interfaces.

FT4232HA features 4 UARTs. Two of these have the option to independently configure an MPSSE engine, this allows the FT4232HA to operate as two UART/Bitbang Ports plus two MPSSE engines used to emulate JTAG,SPI,I2C,Bit-bang or other synchronous serial mode.

The FT233HP sink only module is a high speed USB serial bridge evaluation with two Type-C USB PD ports with only sink power capabilities. The Vinco Ethernet RTC MP3 shield is designed to connect directly to the FTDI Vinco development PCB. The shield will allow the Vinculum-II (VNC2) device on the Vinco PCB to access an Ethernet port which uses the Wiznet W5100 chipset, audio files using the VLSI VS1053b CODEC and access a Real Time Clock using the NXP PCF32123 device.
Additional functions on the PCB include LED indications for the Ethernet status e.g. received data, transmitted data, full duplex mode and collision detection.

The Ethernet function allows the VNC2 to bridge USB, UART, SPI, PWM data to a network, while the RTC may be used for time stamping files stored on USB memory sticks accessed with the Vinco baseboard. The audio codec may be used to decode MP3 audio files for playback on the 3.5mm headphone socket.

These 3 functions are accessed via the VNC2 SPI Master mode and libraries to support the function are available for free with the VNC2 Toolchain.

The VNC2 debug module is designed to provide connectivity between the Vinculum-II IDE development software and the debug interface pin on the FTDI Vinculum-II (VNC2) USB host controller device.

The VNC2 debug module consists of a miniature board with a USB mini B connector, which provides USB connectivity to Vinculum-II IDE development tools running on a PC. The VNC2 debug module can be used to program and debug firmware running on the VNC2 device.

The module connects to the VNC2 device via a 6-way, 2mm pitch, keyed, female connector. The V2DIPxx, VNC2 based development modules are equipped with a compatible male connector to host the VNC2 debug module.

Designers intending to use the module with their own VNC2 based hardware are required to have a similar compatible male connector on their hardware.

Vinco (inspired by Arduino) is a cost effective Vinculum-II (VNC2) development platform, designed to support rapid prototyping and development of USB 2.0 based processing applications with open-source hardware and software. Vinco supports the software drivers and libraries developed for the Vinculum II controller.

Vinco Platform Features:

  • Onboard VNC2-64 USB dual channel Host / unit controller with a powerful 16-bit / 48MHz MCU core, 256KB Flash and 16KB SRAM which also supports UART, FIFO, SPI (master and slave), PWM and GPIO interfaces.

VMUSIC3 is a USB host and MP3/WMA Player application module with an enclosure.

The default firmware of the VMUSIC3 supports audio playback and UART/SPI communications with the embedded USB host controller and USB host port. VMusic3 can be used to read MP3 and other audio format files from a USB flash disk process the data and output the stereo audio through the line-out header and headphone jack.

VMusic3 is designed to support quick and easy integration of a UART/SPI application with a USB client device.

VMusic3 also supports playback of MP3 and WMA. The VMUSIC3 is packaged in a neat enclosure displaying a bi colour LED, making it suitable for incorporating into finished product designs.

The VMUSIC3 utilizes FTDI’s Vinculum-II (VNC248L1B) dual USB host controller IC.

This IC is a microcontroller and USB host controller; it can be reprogrammed using the UART interface or the Vinculum-II debugger module interface connecter.

The default firmware used is V2MSC, this firmware supports the UART/SPI to USB host interface and MP3 playback.

This firmware can be modified or replace with another firmware.

The VMUSIC3 also utilizes VLSI Solution’s VS1053b compressed audio codec to provide the audio play back feature.

This chip operates with the Vinculum-II and supporting firmware when reading MP3 and WMA files from a USB flash drive.

The VS1053b processes this data and outputs the stereo audio to the headphone jack and line-out header.

Connecting headphones or speakers to either of these ports transduces the audio data into sound.

VMUSIC3 has the following features:

  • MP3 and WMA playback
  • Vinculum-II microcontroller/USB host controller IC.
  • USB “A” type socket to connect to USB client devices.
  • 2mm (0.08”) pitch 8 pin header used for the UART/SPI interface.
  • Connects directly and communicates with a FTDI TTL-232R-3V3-2mm USB-UART cable.
  • Jumper selectable UART and SPI interfaces, both operating 3.3V TTL/CMOS.
  • Pre-programmed with V2MSC firmware.
  • Vinculum-II debugger module port under the enclosure, for changing the firmware and debugging.
  • UART programming mode control pins PROG# and RESET# are connected to an internal header.
  • Reprogrammable over USB Port from flash drive.
  • The VMusic3 and all components used are Pb-free (RoHS compliant).

The Vinco Touch-Key is a shield that mates with the FTDI Vinco development module to allow touch pad operation. The shield includes an STMPE821 device, which is an 8-channel GPIO capacitive touch-key sensor. The sensor communicates to the Vinculum-II (VNC2) (on the Vinco module) via I2C protocol.

Vinco is a development module inspired by the Arduino concept and uses the Vinculum-II (VNC2) dual port USB Host/device IC. Vinco uses a VNC2-64Q package to facilitate 38 GPIO options on 0.1?pitch sockets. Vinco is designed as a prototyping platform for VNC2 based designs and applications.
